Facet Joint Injections
Facet joint injections are commonly used to determine what is causing back pain. Facet joint injections are primarily diagnostic injections, meaning that they help your doctor determine the cause of your back pain but may not provide you with any long-term relief from the pain. These injections eliminate pain temporarily by filling the facet joint with an anesthetic medication.
Trigger Point Injections
Trigger point injection (TPI) is used to treat extremely painful areas of muscle. A trigger point is a knot or tight, ropy band of muscle that forms when muscle fails to relax. The trigger point can trap or irritate surrounding nerves and cause referred pain — pain felt in another part of the body. TPI is used to alleviate myofascial pain syndrome (chronic pain involving tissue that surrounds muscle) that does not respond to other treatment, although there is some debate over its effectiveness.
Lumbar Epidurals
An epidural injection places anti-inflammatory medicine into the epidural space to decrease inflammation of the nerve roots, hopefully reducing the pain in the back or legs. The epidural injection may help the injury to heal by reducing inflammation. It may provide permanent relief or provide a period of pain relief for several months while the injury/cause of pain is healing.
Cervical Epidural
Cervical epidural injection of steroid analgesic is a standard procedure in reducing pain caused by an epidural infection, such as infection of spinal nerve roots. The procedure is very effective in reducing pain in about 50 % of cases, you will probably feel nothing more than a sting and then the pain will reduce its intensity.
